We have previously written about how seniors are embracing technology, smart devices and apps. However, in many instances children and carers may help parents, family members and older friends with technology. So we’ve put together some of the common questions we’ve been getting from children and families about YourLink.
Who is YourLink?
The YourLink Co-founders, Rick Hollingworth and Richard Scenna, have been friends for over 20 years. We are based in NSW, close to our families and have created YourLink to support our families and friends as they get older.
We are just like you. We are the ones who help our families adapt to new technology and get comfortable with it.
We've created the YourLink app for seniors to stay in touch with family, friends, services, local communities and residences. It is a purpose built app for your parents and older loved ones to communicate with you and get information that is relevant.
The YourLink app has received great recognition so far this year with a 2016 Gold Award Winner at the [app] Design Awards and Finalist at the 2016 CeBIT Business Technology Awards. You can also read some of the great feedback we’re getting on our testimonials page.
Does it cost anything?
No. It is FREE for everyone to download, create an account and use the app.
What does the YourLink app do?
The YourLink app is designed for seniors, with information that is relevant, helpful and with an easy to use design. With YourLink you can:
- Message your family and friends.
- See what is going on in the local community, so you can keep doing the things you enjoy.
- Find and link to services, social or interest groups in your local area to stay up to date with what's going on.
- Build a personalised and private photo album whether they are living independently at home or in aged care.
You can link to organisations and information from local councils, aged care services, neighbourhood centres, associations and groups as well as interesting news.
What about privacy?
We respect and understand the importance of this. Our technology infrastructure is the same as leading platforms based on industry best practices. For example, the YourLink app is hosted on AWS (Amazon Web Services). Importantly we want you to know that we do not sell or pass on any information.
Why would this be good for my parents or grandparents?
If you are trying to help your loved ones use technology more but have struggled to find a suitable app then take a look at YourLink. YourLink is easy to use, has information that is relevant and will always remain focussed on older people.
Are there pop ups, ads in the app?
No. The app is about connecting families to each other and to the information that is relevant for our older loved ones. We don’t want to get in the way of that.
How is it different to Facebook and everything else out there?
There are so many good digital platforms out there including Facebook. We use it ourselves and quite enjoy it. However, Facebook can have challenges and be frustrating for some older users with some families cautious of its use.
YourLink is different. Of the millions of apps in the app store, how many can you name that were designed specifically for seniors and their families with the content that is relevant. That’s what we have built.
What are the plans for YourLink?
We launched in the Regional NSW areas of Orange, Bathurst and Dubbo. We are now expanding across NSW and Australia. We have over 70 organisations, services and interests available in the app and this will continue to grow as YourLink expands.
We'd love to be on every platform and device straight away, but as with any new business, you have to start somewhere. So at the moment YourLink is only available on an iPad. The iPhone version is coming soon and other platforms including Android will follow.
How can we get it?
YourLink is currently available on the iPad and is a free app. To download the iPad app go to the Apple App Store.
Do you still have more questions?
If you think this is something that your friends and family in Australia may be interested in hearing about then please help spread the word and share it.
