Course Overview

The care workforce are expected to use smart devices to engage with a variety of communication platforms and the internet. Yet assumptions are made about the experience and confidence they have to use these platforms appropriately.

This course has been designed to build participants’ confidence in using their smart device effectively for communications and the internet. Whether it's email, messaging, video calls or contact management, the workforce needs to be comfortable to engage across communication channels.  

Who this course suits

You may be using a smart device for work communications such as Microsoft Teams or need to support others with the Microsoft or Google Suite on their work phone. Roles such as: Community Support Workers, Lifestyle Officers, Recreational Activities Officer or Admin Assistants.

What we will cover

  • Understanding the Digital Communications Ecosystem @work - Google and Microsoft environments; collaborating using your work ecosystem; your communications and productivity toolkit @work

  • Using email with efficiency and etiquette - email apps vs email accounts; working with Outlook; transferring your skills to other email apps; considering appropriate email etiquette (Including Outlook on Smart Device)

  • Participating in video calls - comparing video calling apps; video calls via MS Teams; transferring your skills to other video calling apps(including MS Teams on Smart Device)

  • Navigating the Internet for work requirements - comparing internet browsers; effective use of searching and browser productivity features

At the end of this course you will be able to

  • Create, send, store and delete emails across mail apps on your Smart Device

  • Implement appropriate online etiquette when communicating via email including MS Outlook on your Smart Device

  • Initiate, join and effectively participate in video calls through various online video calling platforms including MS Teams

  • Compare internet browsers and search the internet for relevant websites and information

  • Transfer their digital skills across apps and platforms.
