Essentials for Smart Devices: Course Overview

The use of technology and systems across the Care Sector is rapidly increasing and continuously changing. Workers are not always confident with technology which creates barriers to the adoption of apps and processes.

This course is designed to increase knowledge, skills and confidence, so that the care workforce can comfortably move between smart device platforms and devices. This leads to independence and the ability to better troubleshoot, problem solve and efficiently use their smart devices.

Who this course suits

You may be using a new smart device or need to support others on the Android or Apple platform. Roles such as: Community Support Workers, Lifestyle Officers, Recreational Activities Officer or Admin Assistants.

  • Understanding smart devices and operating systems - what is a smart device; Apple vs Android; smart device data and connections

  • Smart device basics and terminology - getting comfortable and transferring your skills across smart devices

  • Settings and accessibility - using settings to customise your smart device, increase productivity and troubleshoot app usage issues

  • Cyber safety and security - how to implement security tools to defend against online safety concerns @work

  • Managing apps on smart devices - building your confidence and knowledge in the online app store environment to efficiently manage your smart device @work

At the end of this course you will be able to

  • Articulate the main difference between device platforms

  • Recommend considerations to their others when choosing a suitable smartphone

  • Assist others to understand the options and consequences of a mobile plan

  • Recognise the need for learners to be comfortable with their device so they can use it independently and troubleshoot any issues

  • Identify setting options that allow the device to be customised for individual use
