Building digital skills to improve mental health for aged care residents

The Wellbeing in Aged Care program from Community Options Australia provides person-centred mental health support to eligible residents in Western Sydney. YourLink is the digital inclusion partner supporting Community Options Australia with the Wellbeing in Aged Care - Digital Skills program.

YourLink delivers this training program focused on building digital confidence and knowledge for staff, and eligible residents and family members. The aim is to support the wellbeing of residents through the use of technology. The training for staff was delivered via a series of short 45- 60 minute virtual classes. Sessions included the Foundations (tips for introducing residents to technology), Navigating settings and accessibility, Apps for entertainment and Apps for Wellbeing, health and mindfulness.

The Wellbeing in Aged Care program is made possible by funding from Western Sydney Primary Health Network.

Hear from Susan Lackey, Mental Health Clinical Lead, Wellbeing in Aged Care, Community Options; Richard Scenna, Founding Director, YourLink and Dianne Dew, Head of Training, YourLink about the impact so far of the digital program.

Over the last several years, building and supporting digital skills for staff and residents where possible has become an invaluable tool for supporting residents' mental health and wellbeing.
